These notable firms led by visionary women, champion innovation while respecting traditional Thai aesthetics. Their projects often incorporate eco-friendly materials and local craftsmanship, aiming to enhance functionality and beauty. By fostering inclusivity in the industry, these architects inspire the next generation of female designers, promoting diversity and resilience in Thailand's architectural landscape.
Ckori Pena, founder of CKP Studio, is one such visionary leader recognized as one of Thailand's most promising women-founded companies, celebrated for her innovative design approach, commitment to sustainability, and community-oriented projects. At CKP Studio an architectural and interior design boutique studio based in Phuket, Thailand, she combines her architectural expertise with a deep passion for nature, creating spaces that harmoniously integrate with their surroundings while fulfilling modern functional and aesthetic needs.
Born in Venezuela and raised between Brazil and Venezuela, Ckori's early experiences in tropical landscapes ignited her connection to nature. Her passion for architecture blossomed at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, a UNESCO World Heritage site emphasizing the synergy between buildings, art, and nature. This inspired her design philosophy of fostering a strong relationship between the built environment and the natural world. Ckori’s fascination with Southeast Asia began during her first visit in 2012, leading her to establish CKP Studio in Phuket. What started as a small team has grown into a distinguished firm known for sustainable projects that inspire joy and environmental connection.

Championing Bamboo and Sustainable Practices
Ckori Pena's passion for bamboo as a sustainable building material began during her training at Bamboo U, where she learned from industry leaders such as Elora and Orin Hardy. This experience deepened her appreciation for bamboo’s structural capabilities, sustainability, and aesthetic versatility, inspiring her to integrate it into the firm’s projects. One of CKP Studio’s notable accomplishments is the award-winning "Doris the Nudibranch" bamboo playground, which took first place in the Bamboo U Architectural Innovative Bamboo Playground Contest.
The contest invites architects, designers, and creative minds to submit innovative proposals for a sustainable and visually captivating playground for children, exclusively constructed from bamboo. The goal was to explore the versatility of bamboo as a construction material, highlighting its potential for creating sustainable, aesthetically pleasing, and functional designs. Inspired by marine life, particularly the nudibranch, this playful design is under construction at KulKul Farm in Bali, encouraging children to connect with nature while promoting sustainability. This project reflects Ckori’s vision of blending educational spaces with eco-friendly practices.
Looking ahead, Ckori Pena's focus remains on maintaining its architectural and interior design services while expanding its expertise in bamboo construction. She aims to become an ambassador for bamboo building in Thailand, advocating for the development of bamboo construction codes and regulations.
By collaborating with local organizations and experts, she seeks to elevate bamboo’s potential as a mainstream building material. Her ambition is to continue creating innovative, sustainable designs while advancing bamboo's role in modern construction.
“To young professionals aspiring to succeed in this industry, I urge you to follow your dreams and embrace your passion. For me, architecture is an art form; each project feels like a new masterpiece. Pour your heart into every endeavor, and relish the journey from concept to creation. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your vision and are eager to grow. Don’t hesitate to experiment with new materials and ideas, think outside the box. Choose clients who are willing to push boundaries, as this will prevent you from getting stuck in repetitive patterns and inspire true innovation”, concludes Ckori Pena.
