The growth of women founded companies in Malaysia is a paradigm shift in the entrepreneurial landscape caused by cultural evolution, government incentives and accessibility of resources. Over the past few years, we have seen more and more women venturing into entrepreneurship, not just for economic independence, but also to achieve personal fulfillment and be able to play a role in changing society. This transformation has also been dependent on government policies. Having more initiatives and funding programs targeted to female entrepreneurship has created a more conducive environment for female entrepreneurs in starting and growing businesses. With the support of the government’s commitment to attract women and increase their participation in the workforce, giving them targeted training, mentoring and financial support; women who are entrepreneurs have benefited from both training and mentoring support programs.
In addition, the perception of women in business is becoming more and more cultural. As more women become role models of success stories being able to lead successful enterprises, others are inspired to follow similar entrepreneurial aspirations. This visibility and its associated challenges to traditional gender norms is a challenge to traditional gender norms and a push towards an inclusive business ownership approach. However, these are still far from being solved. Women entrepreneurs often find that they encounter barriers in accessing funding, balancing family considerations, going up against a male dominated business environment. Yet the rise of women-founded companies is not just a trend; it is a demonstration of the determination and creativity of Malaysian women.
It is with the view of staying updated with the emerging trends in the region’s business landscape that Asia Business Outlook has come up with a special issue containing stories of companies and their women leaders who have demonstrated their capability through their expertise.
