The We as a human race have grown immeasurably over the past decades and this is all due to our curiosity to learn and gain more knowledge. Now, knowledge isn’t something that grows on trees. It has to be acquired from sources like books, people, or events. In recent times, universities tend to be havens for these sources. Many universities have specialized courses that give you the option to enhance your area of interest.
SEGi University & Colleges is one of the largest private higher education providers in Malaysia with over 45 years of history. SEGi University is ranked number 57 in South East Asia by QS Asia University Rankings 2023; SEGi is also one of only 20 universities in the globe to receive the QS 5 stars plus rating. It boasts 18,000 students from 65 countries and offers certificates, degrees, and postgraduate programs. SEGi offers a one-stop service for its students’ admission services - the admission process is made simple and convenient, with course counselors assisting students with all aspects of the application process, such as filling out the application form, applying for a visa, securing scholarships/educational loans, and finding an accommodation, among other things.
As one of the largest private higher education providers in Malaysia, SEGi University & Colleges consists of 5 sister campuses in different states, as well as partnering universities and institutions in the United States, United Kingdom, China, Switzerland, and Finland. Students have the unique opportunity to transfer 1 semester to any of the 5 sister campuses in Malaysia without incurring additional costs; students can also transfer out to its partner universities worldwide to continue their studies. These mobility programs provide students with unique opportunities to broaden their horizons and network in different states and countries.
At SEGi, students’ learning is never limited to their geographic locations. SEGi students get to attend lecturers and forums beyond their campus – since the university has 5 campuses across Malaysia, students can learn under lecturers, professors, and researchers from all 5 of the campuses in Malaysia. At the same time, the #SEGiGlobalClassroom series allows students to learn directly from lecturers and professors from its partner universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, and beyond.
A Notch Above All
Muhammad Ayman Bin Jamaludin Head, School of Communication and Creative Design at SEGi University & Colleges says “At SEGi University and Colleges, we believe in 2 things when it comes to education (which is in line with our vision and mission): Industry driven curriculum and Affordable fees and international programs.”
Normally, the assignments that university students work on are designed and given by their lecturers. Many of the assignments that students work on at SEGi University & Colleges, on the other hand, are set and graded by industry partners - this gives students real-life industry experience while they’re still studying, enhancing their employability when they graduate.
All of SEGi’s programs are developed in conjunction with professionals from the relevant industry/ field, ensuring that the program offerings are always at the forefront of what the industry/job market wants. Students can learn and study while working on real-life industry projects under the supervision of their lecturers, and at the end of the semester, they will be graded and assessed by real-life industry players on the outcomes of their projects and assignments.
The University is adamant that everyone deserves access to quality education. Therefore, all of SEGi’s programs are very affordable. Students at SEGi can also pursue degrees in the United Kingdom and the United States, which are offered in collaboration with partner universities. This means that students can graduate with a degree from the UK or the US while studying full-time in Malaysia.
The Success Saga
SEGi started with a humble beginning in a shop lot in Kuala Lumpur, offering accounting programs to working professionals. Since then, SEGi has evolved in terms of product offering and student numbers, and it now has over 18000 students studying on 5 campuses. SEGi has developed from a relatively traditional exam-and-assignment-based assessment method to a highly practical and industrydriven assessment method in which it invites industry partners to give students real-life industry projects as assignments (via its “industry into classroom” initiatives).
SEGi has always been at the forefront of implementing technologies in terms of the learning experience. The university has incorporated cutting-edge technologie into student learning, such as investments in world-class learning management software known as “Blackboard,” an online integrated-library management system that provides students with 24/7 access to the library and its resources, and the building of e-sports studios where students learn teamwork in a game setting.
