Nepal, a country characterized by its rich geographical diversity, is home to three main regions: the Terai, the Hill region, and the Himalayas. Covering 17 percent of the country, the Terai lands extend across the southern plains, while the mountainous region constitutes 68 percent, and the high-altitude areas account for 15 percent. In the heart of this diverse landscape, Mohan Karki, the Managing Director of K.M. Engineer's Builders, is spearheading transformative infrastructure projects.
Mohan's journey is deeply rooted in his life experiences. Hailing from a hilly area far from the city, he would walk for 3 to 5 days, often crossing rivers, to reach the urban center. This experience fuelled his imagination and passion for connecting people from remote villages to urban centers. Specializing in building bridges in remote areas, far from the urban landscape, K.M. Engineer's Builders distinguishes itself by making a positive impact on the lives of those residing in distant communities.
Bridge Construction as a Catalyst for Growth
The construction market in Nepal, particularly in the realm of bridge construction, presents substantial potential. With a demand for over a thousand bridges across the nation, the sector is witnessing noteworthy expansion, fuelled by increased government investments. Mohan emphasizes the positive trajectory in funding, signalling a bright future for the industry and, consequently, the overall development of the country.
K.M. Engineer's Builders, is strategically positioned to contribute significantly to this expansion. The company's commitment to excellence and its focus on bridge construction align with the national agenda, providing continual opportunities for growth in the sector.
Embracing Technological Advancements
In the era of evolving construction technology, staying at the forefront of innovation is paramount for any builders and K.M. Engineer's Builders is no exception. The company actively invests in research and development, constantly evaluating and adopting the latest advancements in bridge construction, maintenance, and road safety. Doing so not only enhances project efficiency but also ensures the delivery of high-quality outcomes.
Overcoming Challenges in the Face of Adversity
K.M. Engineer's Builders undertook a significant infrastructure project with the Yari Khola Bridge, initiated through an agreement in October 2019, along with five additional bridge contracts. However, the project encountered unforeseen challenges when the Government of Nepal imposed a complete lockdown on March 24, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The prohibitory order included restrictions on citizens' movement, halting vehicular activities, and grounding commercial flights. Compounded by the remote hill area location in Udayapur District, the project faced tough material transportation conditions, utilizing tractors in the challenging terrain.
In response to the lockdown, the company promptly issued a Force Majeure Notice and collaborated with the government to ensure compliance with safety protocols and local permissions. After a one-month hiatus, construction activities resumed with strict adherence to safety measures.
Remarkably, despite the adversities, none of the project personnel were affected by COVID-19. The Yari Khola Bridge project was successfully completed in December 2022, making K.M. Engineer's Builders the first among the six bridge projects to meet the completion deadline, showcasing the company's resilience, adaptability, and commitment to successful infrastructure development amidst challenging circumstances.
Emphasizing our commitment to progress, we prioritize constructing bridges that reach from bustling cities to remote villages, serving as powerful symbols of connection & a pathway to a brighter future

Waste reduction, energy efficiency, and the use of eco-friendly materials underline the company's commitment to balancing development with environmental responsibility.
Looking Ahead
Recognizing the importance of maintaining existing infrastructure, K.M. Engineer's Builders has ventured into the realm of bridge maintenance. Acknowledging the growing sector, the company is actively working to establish a presence in this field. By initiating small-scale maintenance projects, the company demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the longevity and sustainability of its constructions.
At present, K.M. Engineer's Builders is overseeing the progress of three additional bridge projects. One nears completion at the progressive stage, while another, following the designand- build concept, is in the preparatory design phase. The company's efforts in innovation, safety, and community-focused projects position it as a leading force in Nepal's construction industry.
