Technologies scale quickly so that innovations can reach more students. Much like a well-written textbook, an educational software application can get students not just in a single classroom but across the state or country. Indonesia-based Telkom School of Economics and Business (SEB) thrived on this idea. It was established to answer all the challenges arising from digital technology’s development by formulating the concept of education 4.0, exploiting digital technology, and supporting the creation of collaborative learning and lifelong learning with the tagline “Preparing The Digital Business Leader”.
“We utilize knowledge in economics and digital-based business for service and community empowerment through creative and innovative collaborations between academia, government, industry, media, and communities,” says RatriWahyuningtyas. SEB was formed starting with the establishment of MBA-Bandung in 1990. In 1994, MBA-Bandung changed to Bandung College of Management (STMB). In 2006, STMB changed its name to Telkom College of Business Management (STMB Telkom) to strengthen its identity in telecommunications business management. In 2008, STMB Telkom was upgraded to an institution and changed its name to the Telkom Management Institute (IMT). In 2013, SEB was formed with the establishment of Telkom University (Tel-U), which combines four universities under the Telkom Education Foundation.
Currently, Telkom University has 7 Schools, one of which is the School of Economics and Business (SEB). SEB, as part of Telkom University, has 4 study programs, a bachelor’s degree in business management for telecommunication and informatics (which has an Excellent Grade from the National accreditation Beaureu of Indonesia), a bachelor’s degree in accounting (which has an Excellent Grade from National accreditation Beaureu of Indonesia), the master program of management (which has an Excellent Grade from National accreditation Beaureu of Indonesia) and master program for distance learning as a new study program. Our study program already got international accreditation from The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow, 21stCentury Organization (ABEST 21) from Japan, and Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC) from the UK.
The Strength of Online and Onsite
“Our learning process focus on hybrid learning that combines online and onsite learning by Learning Management System, we call with CeLOE (Center of eLearning and Open Education),” says Ratri. Telkom uses case studies in the digital industry to improve student capability. Its faculties have a combined experience of being practitioners
and academicians. The institute further focuses on developing a curriculum emphasizing business management and digital technology. Some of the programs offered at Telkom University include internationalization programs such as student exchange, summer courses, international joint classes, international lectures, dual degree programs, and international joint research & publication. SEB Telkom University also offers certification programs in marketing, human resources, financial management, accounting, tax, IT project management, Business requirement analysis, lean six sigma, and more. Internship, Researchship, and Entrepreneurship programs are also offered at the university level. “To excel in such a program, we ensure that they are embedded in the curriculum and conversion system in the form of scores in the certain subject for students that already follow that program,” adds Ratri. At the University, tuition fees vary depending on the level of education chosen.
The range is between 10 million – 20 million / semester. Various scholarships are offered to students, including international class students. Telkom’s SEB has various activities that aim to help students improve their competencies, such as online seminars, international conferences with SEB as host, and industrial expert week that brings practitioners to share experiences on issues, strategies, success stories, and challenges in the world of work. International experts week as a medium for sharing global experiences, practitioners and academics, national and international competition, national and international internships, coaching and mentoring in career improvement or academic issues.
