Google's Investment in Malaysia Expected to Boost GDP by $3.2 Billion Over the Next Five Years

Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, announced that Google's plan to invest US$2 billion in a new data center and cloud region in Malaysia is projected to result in the creation of 26,000 high-skilled jobs and contribute to US$3.2 billion in GDP growth over the next five years.

Google celebrated the inauguration of its first US$2 billion data center and cloud infrastructure in Elmina Business Park, Selangor with a groundbreaking ceremony.

As development advances, the data center and cloud infrastructure in Malaysia will help to meet the increasing demand for Google Cloud innovations and also other digital products and services used daily by individuals and businesses.

Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google, welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the special guest of the event.

She stated that with the inauguration of the data center and cloud area in Selangor, Google demonstrates its commitment to building Malaysia's digital future.
