The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), and NVVN of India signed a power sales agreement in a Kathmandu hotel ceremony. Syeda Rizwana Hassan, who serves as an environment adviser, attended the event.
The nations have signed an important trilateral agreement in this area, emphasizing the progress in regional energy cooperation, as per press release statement from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources.
In accordance with this agreement, 40 MW of electricity is set to be transmitted from Nepal to Bangladesh through India for a period of five months spanning from June to November. The press release did not specify the duration of the deal.
Nepal's Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, Bangladesh's Water Resources Secretary, Nazmul Ahsan, and Nepal's Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, were present at the event. During her speech, Rizwana highlighted that this agreement represents a major advancement in the growth of regional energy commerce. "This is not just about meeting our immediate energy needs, but also about ensuring the long-term energy security of our nations in an environmentally friendly manner."
Previously, she had a meeting with Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Singha Darbar, where they talked about issues of mutual interest.
