Asia Projects Engineering also known as APECO, incorporated in 1970, is one of the prominent players holding a strong foothold in the EPC industry. APECO has a proven track record of more than 50 years, catering to top-notch international linfrastructure developments in Singapore, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. In addition to being an EPCC player in Oil & Gas, District Cooling, and Photo voltaics, APECO boasts exceptional skillsets for performing on overhaul of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, pump sets, valves, and fans.
“We are renowned in the industry for our 'On-time' completion for all maintenance works and have always entrusted our clients with strong faith and trust that they will get a successful re-start up as per scheduled,” signifies Tony Ong, Managing Director at Asia Projects Engineering Pte. Ltd. With a workforce of over 450 proficient individuals, APECO has always instilled in all of its employees the notion of "One Team, One APECO”, indicating no politics are allowed, and all employees are to work with a harmonized attitude. This has greatly retained many employees to continue to work and retire in APECO. The firm still has a 66-year-old employee who has been with APECO for 48 years. Aside from a diverse workforce of 9 nationalities, the management team of 5 executive directors is also a diverse body of 4 nationalities.
Tony Ong adds, “APECO comprises employees from 9 nationalities (India, Singapore, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia), and getting them all to operate as one team is a big challenge, but I can proudly say that we have excelled on doing so." APECO always strives to leverage cutting-edge technology to gain new advantages and expand its opportunities for new business. The firm strongly believes that such technology will boost productivity and reduce direct labor involvement, which will, in turn, reduce the occurrence of safety accidents. Moreover, APECO undertakes regular reviews of its existing technology to ensure that it is still imperative in collaboration with one of its parent firms in Japan.
Offering Standardized Quality Work
APECO is the first EPC Company to construct Singapore's largest District Cooling Plant, which is cleaner, greener, and more energy efficient.
The facility meets the cooling demand of commercial buildings, hotels, residential apartments, and casino in the Marina Bay area. APECO’s upcoming project involves building the largest industrial district cooling plant in Singapore. The local regulatory water agency has recognized APECO as one of the safety contractors for three years in a row from 2019 to 2021. Moreover, in the wake of its solid safety records, among 300+ contractors working in relevant facilities, Managing Director of APECO was appointed as the 1st Champion of Contractor Safety Watch Group, which was organized by the regulatory agency for the first time in its kind to enforce safety measures as well as enhance safety culture at all project sites. Managing Director fruitfully accomplished his 2 years tenure by rolling out some practical initiatives originating from APECO among all contractors. APECO is also engaged in the maintenance and operation of Singapore's first coal-fired biomass power plant.
In 2012, APECO secured an EPCC upgrading contract to build an onshore natural gas receiving facility on the northern side of Singapore. Following successful commissioning and handover, the Owner's Engineer hailed APECO, saying that they had never seen a company completed a project without asking for a time extension for this particular client. In 2022, APECO completed the EPC of a 2x48-inch crude oil pipeline that connects two clients in a key industrial area across a 5-kilometer distance. Despite very stringent safety management requirements and limited human resources imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, APECO never compromised safety and quality, resulting in a successful completion with honourable credentials from the customer, presenting APECO a prestige safety award.
The Way Ahead
Tony Ong adds At APECO, we are currently laying our emphasis on the Singapore (primarily), Bangladesh, and Indonesian markets. There are demands of EPC players in these nations for certain industries including Power, Renewable Energy & Water Industries. Each country's prospects, including its capacity to attract any foreign investment, will be impacted by political policies and governmental intervention. The stability and security of a nation were crucial factors in enabling each plant to conduct business safely and uninterruptedly. Since most industries need bank loans to launch new businesses, interest rates will have an impact on any potential developments. Market stability will be threatened by inflation, which will pose a threat to market stability. Since its inception in 1970, APECO has grown exponentially and carved a niche for itself on the international front. And as it forges ahead, APECO aspires to be the leading firm in Asia for Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Maintenance services and will continue to seek to have more entities in Southeast Asia regions and double annual sales in the next 10 years.
