Air India has formed a codeshare agreement with Virgin Australia, enabling passengers of the Tata Group-owned airline to fly on a single ticket to 16 destinations in Australia and New Zealand. The one-sided codeshare agreement allows Air India to mark its 'AI' code on flights run by Virgin Australia.
"This enhances the opportunities that Air India customers have when travelling from Delhi to Melbourne or Sydney and take seamless onward connections on Virgin Australia flights to 16 destinations," Air India said in a release.
Adelaide, Ballina/Byron Bay, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast, Hamilton Island, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Australia, and Queenstown, New Zealand, are among the cities.
Air India offers nonstop daily flights from Delhi to Melbourne and Delhi to Sydney, as well as 14 weekly flights from India to Australia. The airline has around 100 interline agreements and more than 16 codeshares with other airlines.
Kenya Airways and Air India announced last month that they will be partnering on a codeshare. An airline can often book its passengers on its partner carrier through a codeshare relationship, and each ticket will be a single one.
