Amazon's second office located in Singapore's central business district, which will also accommodate the Asia-Pacific headquarters of its cloud computing division, expanded the company's presence in the nation.
IOI Central Boulevard Towers hosts the new Asia Pacific Hub for Amazon Web Services (AWS), featuring eight floors and over 360,000 square feet of space. As many as 3,000 employees from more than 100 local and regional groups can be housed there.
In 2021, Amazon opened a second corporate headquarters in the central business area of Singapore. It can house up to 700 workers and takes up more than 100,000 square feet across three stories in Asia Square in Marina Bay.
The internet behemoth declared in May 2024 that it would give Singapore's cloud infrastructure an extra S$12 billion (US$8.8 billion) between 2024 and 2028. According to Amazon, this investment, along with earlier commitments, is anticipated to support 12,300 full-time equivalent employment in local firms annually and add S$23.7 billion to Singapore's GDP by 2028.
Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Janil Puthucheary discussed the significance of keeping Singapore's workers up to date on the skills and knowledge needed to prosper in a digital economy during the office opening.
Along with the launch of its new regional hub, he said he is "heartened" to see that AWS will be expanding its teams in fields including data center engineering, software engineering, and machine learning.
"These types of roles will enable our workers, the people of Singapore, to seek out employment opportunities and be at the forefront of technological advancement," Dr Puthucheary said.
