Amazon.com announced on Aug 1 that it plans to invest approximately $7.2 billion in Israel through 2037 and has opened Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres in the country.
Amazon's cloud services in the region will enable the government to run applications and store data in Israeli data centres.
"The establishment of the Region will enable us to migrate substantial governmental workloads to the cloud, and we are confident that it will help us accelerate digital transformation in the public sector," said Yali Rothenberg, Israel's accountant general.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is Amazon's cloud computing platform, which is used by companies such as Netflix, General Electric, and Sony to enable storage, networking, and remote security.
AWS will now be available in 32 geographic regions, according to the company, and its investment in Israel will contribute approximately $13.9 billion to Israel's GDP.
