Amcor, a worldwide leader in creating and manufacturing sustainable packaging solutions, revealed that it has finalized the construction of its state-of-the-art coating facility for healthcare packaging in Selangor, Malaysia. This advanced facility is the first in Asia to utilize innovative air knife coating technology, enhancing the availability of high-quality, sterile packaging for healthcare clients throughout the region.
The new facility enhances Amcor’s current healthcare packaging plant in Selangor, forming an integrated campus that positions Amcor as the first in Asia to manufacture both top and bottom substrates for medical device packaging. This advancement offers essential advantages to clients, such as improved supply chain robustness and shorter lead times.
Armed with cutting-edge technologies like water-based coating systems, online inspection tools, and air knife technology, the facility establishes new benchmarks for accuracy and productivity. The air knife technology specifically employs high-velocity air streams to guarantee even coating distribution, improving product consistency and minimizing material waste.
“Amcor’s investment in this new facility reflects our unwavering commitment to support our customers across the Asia Pacific region,” said Chris Kenneally, president of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific. “By introducing advanced coating technology and boosting local production capacity, we are better positioned to meet the growing regional demand for sterile, reliable packaging and to offer our customers greater flexibility and security.”
This new facility is a component of Amcor's larger dedication to enhancing its healthcare capabilities in the Asia Pacific area. Recent efforts involve acquiring healthcare packaging firm MDK in China, launching a grid lacquer paper facility in India, and building a co-extrusion blown film and printing factory in Singapore.
