Ashok Leyland collaborates with Japan's Nidec to develop e-drive motors

A multifaceted partnership agreement has been struck by Nidec Motor Corporation, a subsidiary of Nidec Corporation, a global maker of electric motor drives with headquarters in Japan, and Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group. Through this collaboration, Ashok Leyland and Nidec will be able to create innovative e-drive motors and systems that are tailored to the unique requirements of the Indian commercial vehicle market, assuring cutting-edge and effective electric mobility solutions.

In order to create a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Electric Drive Units (EDUs), Ashok Leyland and Nidec will combine. This CoE will focus on creating state-of-the-art gear-shifting mechanisms, power electronics systems, and motor technologies for electrically powered vehicles. Joint research and development efforts will also be a part of the partnership; both businesses will contribute to lab infrastructure, skill development, and the definition of creative distinct motor technologies for Ashok Leyland's and its subsidiary Switch Mobility's EV portfolio.
