The fastest-growing carrier-neutral data centre platform in Asia-Pacific, Big Data Exchange (BDx), has announced plans to build a new 16MW facility in the forthcoming high-tech industrial area being constructed by Sino Group, a top Hong Kong real estate developer. By the end of 2023, BDx hopes to have the HKG8 hyperscaler-ready data centre operational..
The Kwai Chung District, which is quickly evolving into a highly sought-after industrial and commercial zone, will be home to BDx's fourth data centre in Hong Kong. The nearest port is five kilometres away, while the Hong Kong airport is 26 kilometres away, from the data centre. For BDx's hyperscale and business customers, it will provide redundant power supplies and dependable infrastructure, guaranteeing the highest levels of fail-safe resilience, super-dense connectivity, and IX ecosystems that are the company's trademarks.
"BDx is pleased to announce our new data center to further our commitment to the Hong Kong market. We are pleased to work with Sino Group to develop our next-generation, hyperscale-ready site, which is designed with fail-safe features and a clear focus on sustainability. We continue to support Hong Kong as The Digital Hub of APAC," said Mayank Srivastava, CEO of BDx. "With HKG8, our newest data center in Hong Kong, we continue to expand our footprint across Asia with sustainable, high quality sites. We are proud to offer our customers dense connectivity, IX ecosystems and reliable redundant options, to drive digital delivery and growth."
The size of the Hong Kong data centre industry is anticipated to reach close to US$ 4 billion by 2027, as data centre investments continue to rise, according to a recent analysis from Arizton Advisory and Intelligence. Due to its aggressive adoption of cloud technologies, development of its smart city plan, and government's focused attention on the growth of the ICT market, Hong Kong is one of the largest digital hubs in the Asia-Pacific region.
Bella Chhoa, Sino Group's Director of Asset Management, said, "We are happy to welcome BDx as our key tenant as we complete the construction of our 191,000 square-foot industrial facility. "Innovation and technology have flourished in recent years, and Industry 4.0 has fast gained global traction.
The growth of innotech will enable Hong Kong to undergo a reindustrialization process. We think that the data center's opening will help Hong Kong's information technology development. HKG8 will be BDx's 12th data centre in the Asia-Pacific region, continuing the company's strong expansion trajectory with more than US$1 billion in committed equity financing.
