Bintang Capital Partners Berhad (Bintang) has announced an investment into Singapore-based waste management firm Blue Planet Environmental Solutions Pte Ltd (Blue Planet) through its maiden fund, BCP Asia Fund I L.P (BCPAF I), to support the continued growth of its sustainable waste management technologies and capabilities.
Bintang said in a statement on Thursday that the investment is a significant milestone in the company's commitment to supporting innovative companies that can revolutionise the waste management industry and have a positive impact on the environment.
The investment proceeds, according to the statement, will be used to expand the company's operational teams and portfolio of waste management technologies, allowing Blue Planet to manage and process additional waste types in both existing and new markets.
Bintang's investment was motivated by the company's belief that there is an urgent need for large-scale sustainable waste management solutions, similar to Blue Planet's, to address the growing volumes of hazardous and environmentally damaging waste produced globally.
It is estimated that approximately 38,000 metric tonnes of waste per day will be generated in Malaysia alone in 2021, contributing to the overflowing of local landfills and environmental pollution.
Bintang's investment aims to support Blue Planet's efforts to address this critical waste problem in Malaysia and around the world.
"This collaboration will help Blue Planet's growth, particularly in terms of expanding the types of waste and countries where our portfolio of solutions will be applied."
