Based on data from the Ministry of Transport, China's goods industry experienced a significant increase in the first half (H1) of 2023. From January to June, the country's freight volume increased by 6.8 percent year on year (YoY) to 25.93 billion tonnes.
The road cargo transportation sector performed particularly well, increasing by 7.5% year on year to 19.01 billion tonnes. According to local media reports, air cargo transport increased as well, with 3.28 million tonnes transported, representing a 6.4% increase over the same period the previous year.
Furthermore, port throughput increased by 8% to 8.19 billion tonnes, while container throughput increased by 4.8% year on year to 150 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
