Emerging nickel producer DMCI Mining Corp., a subsidiary of the Consunjis’ DMCI Holdings Inc., is expected to triple its active mining activities in 2025, converting from a single mine in 2024 to three operational mines. The company's dedication to solidifying its position in the international nickel market is demonstrated by the expansion.
In December 2024, its Zambales Chromite Mining Co. (ZCMC), located in Santa Cruz, Zambales, began operations. By the first quarter of 2025, the mine should be operating at full capacity. ZCMC is allowed to produce up to one million wet metric tons (WMT) per year under the terms of its Environmental Compliance Certificate. In the meantime, the Palawan-based Berong Nickel Corp. (BNC) is getting ready to resume operations at its Long Point mine in Aborlan. The Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) for the mine is almost complete.
“Our two new mines, ZCMC and BNC’s Long Point, mark a long-anticipated step forward for DMCI Mining. With increased production capacity and the Long Point port nearing completion, we are confident in delivering improved operational and financial performance this year,” said DMCI Mining president Tulsi Das C. Reyes.
To support the expansion, DMCI Mining set aside P634 million in 2024 for capital expenditures and intends to invest an additional P400 million in 2025. Pending regulatory permits for Long Point, the company's three mines, including the Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation (ZDMC), aim to produce three million WMT annually.
Additionally, DMCI Mining has been actively involved in rehabilitation initiatives. After being completely exhausted in 2021, the BNC mine in Quezon, Palawan, has been undergoing rehabilitation since 2022. The company's dedication to ethical and sustainable mining methods is demonstrated by the fact that it is still on target to finish the six-year program by 2027.
