Eco Wave Power Global AB, a developer of wave energy technology, has recently agreed to sell the first wave energy generation unit to I-Ke International Ocean Energy Co., a subsidiary of Lian Tat Company (LTC), a maritime engineering firm. The agreement aims to introduce Eco Wave Power's wave energy technology to Taiwan.
I-Ke will fully finance the 100 kW pilot project by purchasing a complete conversion unit from Eco Wave Power. All of the hydraulic and electric conversion components, as well as a smart control and automation system, are incorporated into this unit for the wave energy power station.
I-Ke has located the site for the initial pilot station on Taiwan's east coast (as well as 83 other potential sites) and is in charge of securing permits, land use approvals, and any required licenses for the project installations. Furthermore, I-Ke will manufacture the floaters, hydraulic cylinders, and other technology components locally at the seaside of the marine structure. I-Ke thinks this will make Taiwan the center for future growth in other Asia Pacific areas.
“Taiwan is an island country with a coastline of 1,566 kilometers, with high potential for the installation of marine energy. The construction of Eco Wave Power’s project is relatively easy, and I believe that it will be a significant stepping stone for the development of green electricity in Taiwan,” said CY Huang, chairman of LTC. “I also think that this will allow Taiwan to break away from existing renewable energy restrictions and develop in the direction of diversified renewable energy."
