The European Union has revealed a 12 billion euro investment initiative within the "Global Gateway" program aimed at Central Asian nations. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced it on April 4 at the Central Asia – European Union summit, as reported by Spot.uz. In her address, the President of the European Commission emphasized four areas of collaboration among the regions: the Trans-Caspian Corridor; essential minerals; renewable energy; and digital connectivity.
“To accelerate progress, today I proudly announce the Global Gateway investment package of 12 billion euros. It will bring together investments from our European Union and member states,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
“This is truly the beginning of a new era in our ancient friendship,” the President of the European Commission underscored.
Ursula von der Leyen additionally noted that two additional forums this year will create a chance to evaluate advancements and recognize new collaboration areas. Furthermore, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is creating a project bundle worth around 7-8 billion euros by 2027, targeting sectors like essential minerals and renewable energy. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is set to sign four memorandums of understanding with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, allocating 365 million euros for sustainable transport, water management, and climate change adaptation.
