Foxconn announced the appointment of Jun Seki, a former Nissan Motor Co and Nidec Corp executive, as its chief strategy officer for electric vehicles, adding a high-profile auto executive to bolster its industry ambitions.
Seki, who was once considered a contender for the top job at Nissan, later went to Nidec, where he served as CEO before resigning to accept responsibility for the company's earnings decline.
Seki was recruited from Nissan by Nidec's hard-driving founder Shigenobu Nagamori in 2020 to help Nidec become a major player in next-generation automobile components.
Nagamori expressed dissatisfaction with the company's performance and stock price, prompting Seki's demotion less than a year later. Nidec announced his resignation in September of last year.
Seki worked for Nissan for three decades, including a stint as president of the company's China operations. He was widely regarded as a potential chief executive candidate but was passed over in favour of the current leader, Makoto Uchida.
He left Nissan for Nidec not long after being tasked with overseeing the automaker's turnaround strategy.
