As part of its mission to improve financial literacy in the region, FWD Group has teamed with Junior Achievement Asia Pacific to expand its financial literacy curriculum, JASparktheDream, to seven Asian regions. The project mixes financial, social, and life skills education, with the goal of reaching 25,000 students across Asia by 2024.
The scheme was piloted in Hong Kong and Singapore last year before being launched in Indonesia and Vietnam earlier this year, with Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand following soon after.
The campaign is also considered as an extension of the FWD Group's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, which includes raising financial literacy and teaching the next generation for a better future. The multi-year project is led by FWD colleagues and brings together volunteers and students from local schools. Between 2022 and 2023, more than 100 FWD volunteers taught 2,500 kids in Hong Kong and Singapore. Students learnt about budgeting, making wise financial decisions, and creatively satisfying the needs of their communities throughout the programme through exciting games and interactive quizzes that employed both in-class and digital platforms.
Additionally, kids had the opportunity to engage in a social innovation showcase, in which they collaborated with FWD volunteers, parents, teachers, and each other to identify and fix a local issue ranging from supporting low-income families to job matching.
