Malaysian construction giant Gamuda Berhad and two Taiwan-based companies have secured a 4.3 billion ringgit ($995.4 million) contract to design and build a mass rapid transit (MRT) project in Taiwan. The contract, awarded by the New Taipei City government, involves a joint venture between Gamuda (holding a 75% stake) and Taiwan's MiTAC Information Technology and Dong Pi.
The project includes laying a 5.78-kilometer railway track that will connect Taipei Neihu and New Taipei City Xizhi districts, improving transportation between Xizhi and the rest of New Taipei and Taipei City. The venture is expected to span seven years and generate 3.2 billion ringgit in revenue for Gamuda.
Gamuda Berhad, a leading engineering, property, and infrastructure company in Malaysia, is known for large-scale projects such as the Klang Valley MRT, highways, airport runways, railways, tunnels, water treatment plants, and the development of new townships both in Malaysia and internationally.
