The first major global energy event of the year, India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, took place at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi from February 11-14, drawing over 70,000 attendees, 700 exhibitors, 500 speakers from 120 countries, and featuring 95 sessions. As in previous editions, the event served as a platform for networking, strategic partnerships, and showcasing cutting-edge solutions for the future of energy.
Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari, the clean energy arm of Malaysia’s PETRONAS, expressed optimism about India’s energy transition, particularly in the green hydrogen sector. India has set an ambitious target of producing five million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. The demand and supply opportunities in India have led Gentari to expand its portfolio in the country. In 2023, Gentari partnered with India’s AM Green and Singapore’s GIC to invest in the green ammonia platform, AM Green Ammonia India. This collaboration aims to produce five million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030, contributing to 20% of India’s national target under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Sushil Purohit said, "India has abundant renewable energy, an integrated grid, progressive [energy] policy, and a talented and skilled workforce. It’s also strategically placed between Europe and East Asia, which are two major demand centres for sustainable energy".
The green hydrogen produced will be exported to markets such as South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Europe within two years. AM Green Ammonia India also secured a Final Investment Decision for its first 1 MTPA green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. However, Purohit stresses the need for strong infrastructure and efficient value chains to scale hydrogen production.
