HitPay, a payment solution provider for businesses, has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to incorporate India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) into its platform. This collaboration will allow Singapore merchants to facilitate UPI payments for in-store and e-commerce transactions.
The integration provides companies with access to more than 450 million UPI users in India, presenting an economical option that can reduce merchants' fees by up to 50% compared to conventional credit cards. India ranks as one of Singapore’s rapidly expanding tourist markets, with 1.2 million Indian visitors expected in the country in 2024.
Ritesh Shukla, Chief Executive Officer, NPCI International, said, “We are focused on increasing UPI’s global presence to make transactions easier for Indians traveling abroad. Our partnership with HitPay expands UPI’s acceptance in Singapore, offering Indians a reliable, cost-effective payment option during their travel. This collaboration also highlights our commitment to building a globally connected payments ecosystem”.
The collaboration allows retailers to process payments from Indian customers via more than 50 UPI-compatible applications, such as BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. Transactions can be handled via HitPay’s current integrations with Shopify, Wix, and WooCommerce.
HitPay indicates that over 9,000 merchants in Singapore have activated UPI payments in sectors such as retail, food and beverage, and tourism-related enterprises.
The integration expands HitPay’s international payment network, which includes PayID in Australia, PromptPay in Thailand, QRIS in Indonesia, QR Ph in the Philippines, VietQR in Vietnam, and WeChat Pay in China.
