With an emphasis on digitization and decarbonization, India and Singapore signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC).
According to a joint statement from the Singaporean Maritime and Port Authority and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, the establishment of the Singapore-India GDSC will strengthen bilateral cooperation and aid in accelerating the development and adoption of digital solutions as well as zero or nearly zero GHG emission technologies.
The long-standing partnership would be strengthened by the high-level maritime sector delegation's visit to Singapore, according to Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. He added that the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" will expand and strengthen the two nations' collaboration. Sonowal is in Singapore for three days to attend the marine week, which is anticipated to draw 20,000 participants and exhibitors from around the globe. Both parties would work together on maritime digitalization and decarbonization initiatives under the LoI, including finding pertinent stakeholders who may support the initiative. They will also seek to formalize the cooperation by signing a memorandum of agreement on a Singapore-Indian GDSC.
Teo Eng Dinh, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and R Lakshmanan, Joint Secretary in the MoPSW and Waterways, signed the LoI.
Amy Khor, Senior Minister of the State of Sustainability and the Environment of Singapore, and Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, were present at the signing of the LoI in Singapore. Since 2022, more than 28 stakeholders from the energy, financial, and maritime value chains have joined the GDSC.
