Indonesia and Estonia have reached an agreement to enhance bilateral collaboration in the areas of digital technology, food and beverage, and tourism through a memorandum of understanding signed by their respective chambers of commerce.
The memorandum of understanding between Kadin Indonesia and its Estonian equivalent was signed on Tuesday at Kadin Tower in Jakarta, with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna present.
Bernardino M. Vega, Deputy Chair for International Trade at Kadin Indonesia, mentioned that Estonia is keen to increase its investments in Indonesia, especially in the expanding digital economy, food and beverage, and tourism sectors.
“This MoU covers several areas with strong potential for cooperation, including digitalization, food and beverage, and tourism,” Vega said after the signing ceremony.
Foreign Minister Tsahkna stated that the high-level trade delegation signifies progress in strengthening relations between the two countries, both of which are dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurship, and mutually advantageous collaborations.
He commended Indonesia’s leadership in Southeast Asia and its increasing influence worldwide, especially in the digital economy, a sector where Estonia has similarly established an international standing.
Estonia has the most unicorn startups per capita in Europe, featuring globally acknowledged firms like Skype, Playtech, Wise, Bolt, Pipedrive, Zego, ID.me, Gelato, Veriff, and Glia that hail from the Baltic country.
Tsahkna described Indonesia as a crucial portal to Southeast Asia, abundant in diversity, creativity, and economic vitality, while framing Estonia as a strategic access point for Indonesian businesses aiming to enter the European Union market or experiment with innovative products and services.
