Indosat, Nokia, and Nvidia Drive AI-RAN Expansion in Indonesia

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison announced its collaboration with Nokia and Nvidia. It is a landmark initiative to implement AI driven Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) infrastructure across Indonesia. With this initiative, Indosat becomes first operator in Southeast Asia and third globally to deploy commercial AI-RAN integrating Nokia's 5G Cloud RAN and Nvidia's AI Aerial platform.

As part of this initiative Indosat, Nokia, Nvidia will collaborate with top universities and research institutions in Indonesia to advance AI-RAN development. This collaboration aims to support academic programs focused on fostering AI driven innovation in telecommunication and provide students and researchers hands on practical expeience in shaping next-generation AI-powered networks. By engaging with academia, the companies seek to accelerate progress in AI-driven network optimization, spectral efficiency, and energy management.

Indosat believes this cutting-edge approach will revolutionize its network capabilities and business model. By distributing infrastructure costs across multiple applications, the company can maximize its return on investment while unlocking new revenue opportunities through AI-powered services. The deployment is expected to drive major improvements in network performance, spectral efficiency, and energy consumption, laying the foundation for a software-driven transition to 6G.

This initiative aligns with Indonesia's national AI strategy, positioning Indosat not only as a connectivity provider but also as a key enabler of AI-driven services. To support enterprises, startups, and government bodies in developing local AI applications for sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture, Indosat has established a Sovereign AI Factory in Indonesia.
