Mr. Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, and Mr. Wang Minsheng, CEO of China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Limited (CTGSAIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on exploring renewable energy projects across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a press release, both companies will also collaborate to create a roadmap for the installation of grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems into KE's network.
Three Gorges Dam in China South Asia Investment Ltd (CTGSAIL) is a subsidiary of China Three Gorges International Corporation (CTGI), which is China Three Gorges Corporation's (CTG) international business platform, focusing on clean energy investment, development, and operation in over 40 countries.
CTGSAIL has 2.6 GW of generation assets in Pakistan worth more than $6 billion and is actively investing in hydel, wind, solar, and PV power projects in Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
"This is a milestone moment for Karachi and its customers, and I am very pleased to be present here today," stated Moonis Alvi on the occasion.
"We are actively working to contribute positively to the country's ambition to increase share of clean, sustainable, and affordable energy in our mix. It is exciting to be exploring these new frontiers with global giants CTGSAIL as partners.
Their global experience will help propel our efforts forward by leaps and bounds, and we look forward to working with them closely.
Climate change is not new to Pakistan, and the time for action is now. Incorporating renewable energy is critical to balancing affordability for our customers with environmental impact." While speaking on the occasion, CTGSAIL CEO Wang Minsheng stated that this would be another step by CTGSAIL toward Cleaner Energy, Better Pakistan. CTGSAIL, in accordance with the "Belt and Road Initiative" philosophy of innovation, integration, mutual development, and inclusion of local expertise, has collaborated with K-Electric to provide solutions for low-cost, clean energy, which is the bedrock of economic growth in all emerging economies.
Green energy not only helps to solve the problem of climate change, but it also provides industrial consumers with a competitive advantage through cost optimization. Given the recent floods in Pakistan, we believe that including renewable energy sources in the country's energy mix is becoming increasingly important. We hope that this collaboration produces excellent results for both organisations and leads to the joint implementation of renewable energy projects in Pakistan.
On the occasion, Ms. Sadia Dada, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer at KE, and Mr. Mudassir Zuberi, Head of Business Development at CTGSAIL, were joined by Senior Advisor Mr. N.A. Zuberi and Deputy General Manager Project Development Mr. Mustafa Umar Riaz. Other senior members of both organisations were present as well.
