Lok Yim has been named Regional Head of Global Private Banking, Asia Pacific, by HSBC. Yim joins HSBC as a designate on November 1 and will begin formally on January 1, 2024, subject to regulatory approval.
Yim takes over for Siew Meng Tan, who is retiring after a nearly forty-year career in banking. Tan has spent two decades at HSBC in senior leadership roles, including the last seven years as the Asia Pacific head of HSBC's Global Private Banking business.
During this time, HSBC Global Private Banking has expanded in key growth markets such as mainland China, India, Taiwan, and Thailand, while also continuously investing in client services and solutions capabilities in its Hong Kong and Singapore booking centres, deepening its bench strength, and building an industry-leading digital ecosystem for clients.
Asian Private Banker named HSBC Global Private Banking the Best Private Bank in Asia Pacific in 2021 and 2022, recognising the quality of its client proposition and successful strategic execution under Tan's leadership. Tan will continue to advise the company until March 31, 2024.
Yim brings nearly thirty years of private banking and capital markets experience, as well as a track record of successfully leading teams to serve the region's most sophisticated entrepreneurs and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. He joins HSBC from Deutsche Bank, where he spent 16 years, most recently as Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong SAR, and previously led the bank's Asia and Emerging Markets Wealth Management and International Private Banking franchises. Yim also held senior positions at Citigroup and graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Master of Arts degree.
