The research and development (R&D) arm of Nestlé is intensifying its efforts in Singapore to foster innovation in digital transformation, sustainable food, and packaging. Nestlé, which is backed by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), will be able to produce healthy, affordable, and tasty products while also taking action on global food security and environmental concerns.
As part of this expansion, Nestlé will devote additional funds to its Singapore R&D Centre which will create opportunities across the board from chefs/engineers and product developers. It is aiming to drive new solutions forward in key innovation areas including alternative proteins, such as plant-based or hybrid product/dairy products; and cutting edge packaging solutions that reduce environmental impact.
Nestlé works closely with local partners, particularly start-ups and SMEs to develop innovative technology alongside Singapore's EDB and other government agencies. The next generation of sustainable products, ingredients, and methods of production will be facilitated by these partnerships.
Nestlé's partnership with KosmodeHealth, a local start-up, to create noodles from spent barley grains made from recycled materials, is proving to be incredibly effective. The project was honored with the "Most Transformational Collaboration" Award by Singapore International Chamber of Commerce in 2023.
