A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Republic of Rwanda and the Sultanate of Oman has been signed for collaboration in the areas of communications, information technology, and to develop the digital economy. The MoU was signed as part of Oman’s participation in the Global AI Summit held under the theme of ‘Artificial Intelligence and Africa’s Demographic Dividend: Reimagining Economic Opportunities for Africa’s Workforce’, in Kigali on Friday.
On behalf of Oman, the MoU was signed by H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. On the Rwandan side, the agreement was signed by Yves Iradukunda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Information Technology, and Innovation.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) provides a vehicle for strengthening collaboration and knowledge-sharing on digitising government services, digital transitions, and the use of artificial intelligence. Moreover, it aims to enhance private sector participation and systems integration, especially in communications, information technology and innovation.
The MoU includes significant portions on collaboration in developing emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and the internet of things (IoT). It also focuses on cybersecurity improvements and assisting both countries with the growth of their information technology sector. The MoU aims to strengthen the capabilities of emerging and startup technology companies and of small and medium-sized enterprises. It is also designed to improve data protection capabilities and advance the shared agenda of personal data protection and the digital economy.
