Oracle has revealed a tie-up with Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) to provide sophisticated cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) services for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). This is Oracle's largest defense-related contract in Southeast Asia.
Under the pact, Oracle will supply an air-gapped cloud infrastructure such that the system is completely separated from the internet and connected only to classified networks through encrypted devices. The isolated cloud environment will improve the SAF's Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) operations, with more scalability, security, and performance.
Oracle AI technologies will also be at the forefront, with the capacity for sophisticated data analysis and imaging capability. Among them are capabilities such as video streams analysis for face recognition, number plates, and vehicle identification, which are central to defense work.
The collaboration aims to modernize Singapore's defense capabilities by leveraging Oracle's expertise in secure cloud solutions. "Through this pilot collaboration with Oracle, we will harness advanced cloud and AI technologies to digitalize and transform our operations," said Ng Chad-Son, Chief Executive of DSTA.
Oracle's Global Defense CTO, Rand Waldron, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, "Our air-gapped, isolated cloud regions bring the capabilities of our public cloud and defense ecosystem to the world's most secure networks."
