The Gumusut-Kakap/Geronggong-Jagus East (GKGJE) Phase 4 offshore project's first oil delivery was made on February 4, 2025, according to a statement released by Petronas through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM).
This event reinforces regional cooperation in deepwater oil production and represents another milestone in the cross-border collaboration between Brunei and Malaysia, it said.
With two wells in Malaysia and two in Brunei, the GKGJE Phase 4 project consists of three strategically placed oil producers and one water injector.
"Designed to maximise resource recovery and enhance production efficiency, the project is tied back to the Gumusut-Kakap Floating Production System (FPS), further solidifying its role as a key deepwater production hub in Malaysia,” Petronas said in a statement today.
The first oil from GKGJE Phase 4 is proof of the strength of teamwork, according to MPM senior vice president Datuk Bacho Pilong.
"This achievement underscores the strong partnership between Petronas, our petroleum arrangement contractors, oil and gas and services equipment (OGSE) players, and our Bruneian counterparts in advancing deepwater capabilities while ensuring responsible and efficient resource development,” he said
The project is a prime example of Petronas' dedication to utilizing innovation, strategic alliances, and sustainable development to unleash deepwater potential, the statement claims. Its success was fueled by a solid cross-border partnership that made sure all Malaysian and Bruneian laws were followed.
