Over the next three years, the state-owned energy company Petroliam Nasional Berhad of Malaysia plans to execute significant projects aimed at increasing the nation's production of gas and oil. Petronas anticipates drilling more than 400 wells and completing 39 upstream projects, such as building three offshore central processing platforms, three onshore facilities, and fabricating and installing roughly 900 kilometers (559 miles) of pipelines.
The country's oil and gas production is projected to increase from 1.7 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe) per day in 2024 to 2 million mmboe per day between 2025 and 2027, according to Petroliam Nasional, also known as Petronas.
Projects like the Kasawari gas development off Sarawak state on Borneo and the redevelopment of the Gumusut-Kakap, Bekok, Tabu, and Seligi oil and gas fields, among others, would help attain its goal, according to Petronas' report. According to the research, around 15 exploratory wells are expected to be drilled annually over the next two years, with an emphasis on both shallow-water and deepwater wells. With 69 development wells in 2025 compared to 56 in 2024, Petronas stated that its outlook for upstream development projects is unchanged for the following three years.
