Singapore's Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG) will merge with the Ministry of Communications and Information's (MCI) digital development functions to form an expanded Smart Nation group. SNDGG and MCI said in a joint statement released on Sep 12 that the merger "will better position the government to advance the full range of the digital agenda."
The Smart Nation and Digital Government Office, as well as its implementing arm, the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), are referred to as SNDGG. SNDGG is in charge of the Smart Nation strategy, the digitization of government services, and the development and application of digital technologies and capabilities throughout Singapore.
MCI leads in the development of the digital economy, digital readiness and inclusion, regulation of digital infrastructure and data, online regulation, and digital and cyber security, in addition to coordinating the government's information policy and public communications. According to the joint statement, SNDGG and MCI have already been collaborating closely on national and government digital strategies. According to the authorities, the new, larger Smart Nation group will be part of the Prime Minister's Office and administered by MCI.
