Attackers have turned their focus to exploiting browser vulnerabilities in today's internet era, where web browsers have become the major instrument for online operations. As a result, new dangers such as phishing, identity theft, and browser-based attacks have emerged.
SquareX, based in Singapore, is bridging this gap by developing a cybersecurity software geared to combat today's threats.
Vivek Ramachandran, a cybersecurity expert, founded the firm, which just raised US$6 million in a seed fundraising round headed by Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia.
The cash raised will be used for R&D, engineering, and go-to-market initiatives.
SquareX's cloud service allows users to open links and files via special browsers that block dangers. These specialised browsers operate in data centres, preventing web risks from reaching users.
In March of this year, the company engaged its first set of users, and it aims to publish a test version of its service for a limited group in May.
"The online world is about to get a whole lot worse as the AI revolution is channelled towards building malicious code," said Anandamoy Roychowdhary, a partner at Sequoia Southeast Asia's Surge, a rapid scale-up programme.
