Singaporean telecom firm StarHub has effectively tested Southeast Asia’s first 5G Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN) in partnership with Finnish telecom company Nokia and American tech group Dell Technologies.
Nokia stated in a release that the cloud-based platform will allow StarHub to provide new services to its enterprise clients and create a progression route to advanced 5G and 6G. The trial aligns with StarHub’s Cloud Infinity initiative, which seeks to assist customers in speeding up their digital transformation process.
The statement indicates that embracing Cloud RAN is essential for the future development of mobile networks. It establishes the groundwork for AI-RAN infrastructure, facilitating artificial intelligence (AI) workload management and enabling mobile operators such as StarHub to optimize resource scaling in their networks.
Through Cloud RAN, StarHub is able to assist with scenarios like time-of-day services, ultra-low-latency applications, and services that need dynamic throughput adjustments. It will be accessible and enable StarHub to cater to new service requests for enterprise clients and generate additional revenue streams.
Nokia’s commercial 5G Cloud RAN solutions effortlessly connect with all major cloud or server infrastructures. During the trial, the company’s commercial 5G Cloud RAN solution was utilized to conduct a carrier-grade call, showcasing feature consistency with the current purpose-built RAN. Nokia MantaRay NM, the network management solution, facilitated smooth integration between the Cloud RAN and customized RAN.
“StarHub is committed to delivering high-performing network and innovative services to our customers,” said Ayush Sharma, Chief Technology Officer at StarHub.
