500 Global, a global venture capital investor, leads a $1.2 million Seed funding round for WeGoWhere, a Thailand-based social networking platform dedicated to improving offline social interactions.
According to an announcement, Goodwater Capital, Wing Vasiksiri, Peng T. Ong (co-founder of Match.com), and existing investor Antler also participated in the round.
Ty Lertwichaiworawit and Mint Leung founded WeGoWhere in 2020 with the goal of revolutionising how people socialise by facilitating in-person connections over passive online interactions. This Thailand-based platform has amassed a thriving community of over 300,000 users in a short period of time.
WeGoWhere, unlike traditional social media platforms such as Facebook or Instagram, encourages users to share their upcoming plans, allowing friends to join in. The platform simplifies the process of planning and organising meetups, making it simple for friends to connect in person.
"The way social media is built today, it's a recap of the past," Ty Lertwichaiworawit, CEO & Co-founder of WeGoWhere, explained. "WeGoWhere was designed to reflect how we socialise in real life - we tell our friends about our plans so they can join us."
The investment from 500 Global and others will fuel WeGoWhere's expansion into new Southeast Asian markets, product innovation, and an improved user experience.
"We enjoy staring at our screens. There are applications for that. But we also enjoy seeing each other in person! WeGoWhere can assist you with both!" Khailee Ng, Managing Partner at 500 Global, agreed. "Ty and her team are redefining what it means to live in a connected world for everyone."
WeGoWhere's success, which includes an average of 28 minutes per day spent on the app and a Day 30 retention rate of 79%, demonstrates the growing demand for platforms that foster real-time, authentic connections in our increasingly digital world.
