With today's announcement of a collaboration with Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: UBER) and WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD) have taken yet another step toward influencing the direction of mobility. With WeRide as the initial technological partner, the collaboration sets the stage for Uber to integrate AVs into daily life in Dubai in a dependable and accessible manner.
Noah Zych, Uber’s Global Head of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery Operations, said, “We’re thrilled to be working with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority to bring autonomous vehicles onto the Uber platform, starting with our technology partner WeRide. At Uber, we’re building the future of transportation, working with the world’s leading autonomous vehicle developers to help commercialize and deploy this technology at scale around the world.”
Uber and RTA will work together on experimental projects as part of the deal, using Uber's technology to pair passengers with AVs while guaranteeing a smooth and convenient experience. In order to facilitate a seamless transition to autonomous mobility in Dubai, the alliance will also investigate data insights, safety procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
Dubai is now part of an expanding list of places where Uber is collaborating with top AV developers to incorporate self-driving technology onto its platform, further solidifying the company's worldwide leadership in autonomous vehicle innovation.
In July 2023, WeRide became the first AV Company to obtain the national license for autonomous vehicles on UAE public roads. The Dubai launch comes after WeRide AVs' successful December 2024 commercial debut on Uber in Abu Dhabi.
