Volkswagen in Negotiations with Leapmotors Technology for Possible Collaborations

Volkswagen is in talks with Chinese electric vehicle startup Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology about possible collaboration for Volkswagen's Jetta brand, according to a Chinese media outlet citing sources on August 2. According to the state-backed financial news website Cailianshe, a joint venture between Volkswagen and the state-owned Chinese automaker FAW Group may acquire a platform of EV technologies from Leapmotor.

Leapmotor unveiled a new in-house vehicle manufacturing platform on July 31, which its CEO said the company plans to licence to other automakers.

According to CEO Zhu Jiangming, Leapmotor is in advanced talks with two foreign companies about such a partnership, including a new player in the electric vehicle segment that could produce Leapmotor-developed models in overseas markets.
