The wellness industry is thriving. Spending on products and services that enhance one’s fitness, diet, looks, sleep, immunity, and mental health is expected to rise exponentially. Although the modern concept of wellness has been around for some sixty years, consumers today perceive ‘wellness’ through a much broader and more sophisticated prism, including not only physical/mental fitness and optimum nutrition, but also personal appearance. Globally, people are increasingly conscious of the importance of achieving optimum wellness through preventive healthcare. To put things into perspective, health and wellness are often defined as a process that an individual pursues in achieving desired mental and physiological wellbeing.
Generally, promoting mental and physical health necessitates extensive research into the current health cum and wellness industry. The global wellness economy was valued at $4.9 trillion in 2019 before falling to $4.4 trillion in 2020 due to the adverse impacts of COVID-19 epidemic. As we enter the post-COVID era, this economy is expected to resume its exponential growth with the well-informed public becoming more aware of the importance of preventive and personalised healthcare. This industry is forecasted to enjoy 9.9 percent average annual growth and reaching roughly $7.0 trillion by 2025. With nearly 20 years of remarkable track records for treating and managing major chronic metabolic disorders linked to dietary/lifestyle choices and genetic disposition, DSY Wellness & Longevity Group is the largest wellness centre in Malaysia offering evidence-based adjunct treatment for cancer/tumor, ischemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus types 1 & 2, hypertension, skin disorders, allergies, autoimmunity, liver disorders, and early-stage kidney failure.
“Many of the patients seeking help from our Centre come from ASEAN and from Northern Asia”, says Prof. Steve Yap, CEO of the DSY Wellness & Longevity Group, and a popular presenter/ speaker at national & international conferences in the fields of nutritional/functional, metabolic, and anti-aging/ regenerative medicine. He has been a pioneer in the practice of cutting-edge, evidence-based complementary medical therapies attracting clientele from all over the Asian Region. He has also served on various technical committees within the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education in the past decade.
Enlightening the World through Wellness Programs
DSY Wellness Group provides health-empowering programs/seminars for corporate executives/managers from various industries to help them cope with mental/ physiological stressors with the aim of raising their job productivity and reducing job absenteeism. Some of its innovative clinical protocols have been published in journal articles, magazines, and newspapers. The World Health Organization’s goal of reducing by 25 percent the global 40 million pre-mature deaths from chronic health diseases by 2025 are aligned with DSY’s corporate health-empowering programs and its natural treatment protocols. While natural therapies are widely accepted throughout Asia, DSY is probably the first complementary medical wellness centre to offer evidence-based, noninvasive, adjunct therapies for major chronic disorders.
In the past decade, apprenticeship training offered by the DSY Group has led to growth in the number of practitioners in nutritional & functional medicine for secondary healthcare needs. Academic/technical input by DSY senior practitioners has led to high enrolment for its university-validated training programs by other healthcare practitioners from several countries in East Asia. “Our patients prefer a more holistic approach to their healing experience with our non-invasive treatments complementing their drug/surgical therapies. Clearly, patients today desire greater control over their healthcare, and we aim to empower them with cutting edge research evidence backed up by our long clinical experience. Most patients are referred by their family members and friends whose chronic disorders were earlier resolved at this centre”, Steve stresses. A major strength of DSY Centre is viewing patients’ chronic non-communicable diseases as being ‘metabolic’ in character and are, therefore, likely to be reversible through dietary and/or lifestyle modifications. This metabolic concept is strongly reflected in all its adjunct treatment protocols and on its popular training programs. However, the centre refers patients with acute illnesses for control by conventional pharmacological regimens.

Envisaging a Bright Future
The World Health Organization has emphasized that almost 80 percent of the global population still rely on natural and herbal remedies for their basic healthcare needs. DSY Wellness aims to enhance this naturopathic system by offering additional clinical evidence for its applications in managing chronic disorders. With the vision of positioning natural medicine in preventive and personalised healthcare, DSY plans to adopt digitalization and big data analyses to enhance its current provision capabilities in the years ahead. By applying and implementing mobile AI technologies via 5G services, DSY Wellness aims to replicate its hard-earned successes internationally particularly in its promotion of adjunct treatment for all major chronic health disorders.
