Running a business without strong legal guidance is like navigating a terrain blindfolded. In today’s complex business landscape, it isn’t just helpful, but essential. Legal consultants act as strategic protectors, safeguarding companies from risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling informed decision-making. One such strategic legal luminary from Bangladesh is Adnan Habib, Head of Chambers at Oracle Chambers.
Adnan’s academic foundation into becoming a barrister from the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn was laid at the University of Northumbria, where he completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) and Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). The rigorous curriculum at Northumbria covered essential areas of law, providing Adnan with a deep understanding of legal principles. The university’s emphasis on practical components allowed him to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, honing his skills in analyzing complex legal issues, interpreting legislation, and conducting detailed research. Additionally, training in drafting legal documents, oral advocacy, and negotiation equipped Adnan with the tools needed to navigate the legal profession with integrity and professionalism.
Leadership at Oracle Chambers
At Oracle Chambers, Adnan’s role as Head of Chambers includes various responsibilities crucial to delivering effective legal solutions. He provides administrative and strategic support, leading brainstorming sessions to determine the best approach for cases. Also, he ensures discipline and uniformity among the barristers and lawyers in the chambers. These responsibilities are vital for maintaining a high standard of legal practice and ensuring that clients receive well-prepared and informed legal representation.
Adnan’s expertise in commercial and banking law has been a significant asset in his role. He deals with complex issues related to financial transactions, banking regulations, and corporate finance. His knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements ensures that financial institutions and their clients adhere to legal standards. Moreover, his experience in drafting and negotiating contracts related to loans, credit agreements, and other financial instruments helps protect clients’ interests and minimize disputes. Adnan’s understanding of cross-border transactions and the legal complexities associated with international banking further enhances his ability to provide valuable legal guidance.
Diverse Experience and Contributions to the Legal Field
Adnan’s previous roles as a legal associate at 02 corporate & litigation-based chambers were instrumental in shaping his career. These positions exposed him to diverse legal aspects, helping him develop adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Accompanying seniors in various lower courts, including the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and interacting with clients, opposing counsel, and legal professionals expanded his knowledge and networking opportunities.
As a member of the Honorable Society of Lincoln's Inn, Adnan contributes significantly to the legal community. He represents clients in various courts, engages in educational activities such as mentoring and organizing seminars, and participates in pro bono work to ensure access to justice for all.
Navigating the Challenges
Upon returning to Bangladesh from the UK, after completing his training as a barrister, Adnan found himself facing the reality of an intensely competitive legal job market. Securing a position in a reputable law firm was challenging. His approach was strategic and determined, securing entry into a reputable chamber, where he dedicated long hours to proving his worth to the chamber.
However, the challenges didn’t end there. “The low remuneration in the early stages, and balancing chamber work with academic rigours were hurdles as well”, Adnan adds. Passing the Bangladesh Bar Council’s exams to become enrolled in the lower court meant juggling coursework and extensive exam preparation, all while maintaining his responsibilities at the chamber.
