In the growing industry of organic food and other items, Organic India needs no Introduction. Founded in 1997, Organic India was created with the vision of starting an organic movement in India and across the globe. Their idea was to spread awareness and provide effective solutions for healthy, conscious, and sustainable living. Finding support from one farmer 25 years ago, Organic India has grown massively in these 25 years and is now functioning and thriving with 3000 farm partnerships. What started with organic teabags and health supplements, back in 1999 from a very small and basic manufacturing facility in Lucknow, UP, has now expanded into a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit, which has received the LEED Platinum certification, producing a variety of food products including pulses, spices as well as teas, and other infusions.
As the global pandemic gave people a reality check about the need to make healthy living a lifestyle, Organic India found that as a result of facing mortality so closely, people became more receptive and accepting of the Organic way of living. The message that Organic India had been spreading for so long was now resounding all over the world. This gave the company a push to take more measures. As such, Organic India undertook more initiatives. For example, spreading the word about the need to develop healthy eating habits from childhood has been highlighted by them through the #Towards Healthy Eating Campaign, which emphasized the need to inculcate healthy eating habits in all, especially children.
Taking a Holistic Approach
Believing strongly in holistic agricultural practices that can be described in one word as re-generative practices, Organic India is encouraging its partner farms to produce materials by utilizing practices that benefit the soil, and encourage biodiversity. By “joining hands together with the farmers, we have transformed more than 10,000 acres of chemically ravaged soil into fields of abundance through organic agro-ecological practices",
They also ensure that all their products are free from pathogens, viruses, artificial chemical additives, and other harmful substances. While one of their focus areas is sustainable agricultural practices, another very important focus area on which the company was built is ensuring consumer health.
To ensure that its mission of encouraging healthy living is achieved, Organic India produces products that are completely organic and are scientifically proven to boost human health and immunity. Being passionate about healthy conscious living, Organic India is ardent about meeting or exceeding the regulatorily prescribed standards for organic items. As such, it has received various certifications like the HACCP, GMP, ISO 9001- 2015, and SGS, to name some. By combining ancient Indian wisdom of the benefits of naturally grown ingredients like Tulsi, with modern science, Organic India has been producing products that are scientifically-backed by research and evidence to be good for human health. Their flagship product, the Tulsi Tea, launched in 1999, was made with the same approach.
“Recovering traditional agricultural wisdom and rediscovering holistic Ayurvedic formulations has been our mission". While looking after the environment and the consumers, Organic India has not forgotten about the backbone of the company- the farmers. The company continually takes various steps to promote the upliftment of farmers all across India. “Our commitment goes beyond the farm to help enhance the lives of our farmers through fair market wages, access to healthcare, empowerment and gender equality programs, as well as improvements in infrastructure".
Growth in the Future
The last two decades have seen consistent growth in the Organic foods industry in Asia, especially in India. This is the result of various factors including growing awareness, gradual betterment of the standard of living, and increasing purchase power of the people. In the past few years, Organic India has diversified its product line to include skincare products, detox products, and more food items. One of its major goals for the ongoing year is to become a one-stop ‘organic’ solution for all consumers looking for health and wellness products. With a lot of diverse products including food items like Quinoa, Apple Cider Vinegar, Jaggery, and Coconut Oil, among many others; skincare products like their Kure range of products that have rejuvenating, restoring, and soothing powers on the skin, the clean detox kits that can be used as a cleansing ritual to enhance physical, mental, and spiritual health; Organic India is continually growing.
