Education is a powerful weapon for changing lives and shaping the future. As a foundation stone of society, education brings reforms, enhances progress, and paves the way for innovation. The importance of quality education cannot be undermined in society.
The American University of Yangon understands the supremacy of education for a brighter and prosperous future and is therefore of the persuasion that quality education should be a reality for all. With this belief and understanding, it began providing an equitable and standard education, while promoting lifelong learning.
The main aspiration in the establishment of the American University of Yangon (AUY) is to offer equal access to Myanmar students to American standard university education right in their home country. The American University of Yangon is known for its 2+2 program designed in collaboration with its partner universities in the US, enabling students to study for two years in Yangon, Myanmar, and subsequently, transfer credits to complete their remaining two years of study at the US universities. This approach makes the total program both efficient and affordable for students and their families.
Student Life
For students who are here with the intent to transition into the universities in the US, AUY makes sure that they are adequately prepared to experience and assimilate the differences in the learning environment at the universities to which they will be transferring. The American University of Yangon offers students an opportunity to earn certifiable course credits for a four-year US undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree.
The courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to meet the US universities’ rigorous educational standards and student life. The discussion-based approach in the classroom creates a collaborative
environment where dialogue, exchange, and consultation can take place between students and instructors.
Students are encouraged to invest themselves fully in a campus where they learn, work, and play. The university program places a strong emphasis on developing student-led organizations and extracurricular activities so that students do not solely focus on academics. Extracurricular activities teach students skills not learned in the classroom, such as community awareness and participation, leadership and organizational skills, and sportsmanship and creative talents, as well as other necessary socialization skills that encourage adaptability to life in the US after American University of Yangon.
Opportunity to Learn & Grow
American University of Yangon has been actively engaging in international collaborations and partnerships with universities and organizations from around the world. These collaborations provide the school with opportunities to recruit qualified and experienced faculty members with solid knowledge and qualifications, as well as an understanding of Asian society. Faculty members and staff prioritize the success and well-being of their students by offering comprehensive support services. Dedicated academic advisors assist students in planning their course schedules, setting academic goals, and exploring career opportunities.
American University of Yangon understands that deciding where and how to pursue higher education is an important and life-changing decision. Therefore, the school offers a complete guide to help students evaluate their financial options by exploring the different types of scholarships, as well as the details and eligibility requirements applicable to scholarships. These scholarships are based on the exceptional abilities and academic achievement demonstrated and acquired by the students during their two years at AUY.
Contributing to the Growth of Society
The university is actively engaged with the local community addressing pressing societal challenges and has established numerous community outreach programs that provide educational support, mentorship, and social services to underprivileged populations. Moreover, its students actively participate in volunteering initiatives, demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility and making a positive impact beyond the campus.
The American University of Yangon is a social enterprise working to provide equitable access to quality education to all students in Myanmar, regardless of their race, gender, or financial background. Each and every individual in the university believes that ideas and people are the two most powerful elements of learning, and connecting these can lead people to new worlds. A worthy education not only challenges preconceived notions but also enables people to better understand everything around them.
