More than 70 percent of the planet’s surface is covered with water, and our lives are influenced by this fact every day. Whether it’s a large ship carrying cargo across an ocean, a military vessel patrolling the shoreline, a smaller coastal vessel supporting local industries, or a renewable energy device producing offshore electricity, we rely on our water-based industries to support our society. It is estimated that by 2030, the Ocean economy is estimated to grow to more than $3 trillion, covering not only traditional sectors such as coastal tourism and oil & gas, but also fast-growing sectors such offshore wind and aquaculture.
Leading at the forefront in this industry by delivering customized and turnkey solutions is Pape Engineering. Established in 2008, Pape along with Equatoriale Energy, a specialized Energy Project Development Company, are part of the Rawabi Holding Company Group, a large energy focused conglomerate based in Saudi Arabia, as of 2022. Pape has positioned itself in the important and growing sector of upstream oil & gas -Subsea field development covering design of subsea rigid & flexible pipelines, power & fiber optics, design & installation of mooring systems for floating structures, design & construction of large fixed and floating structures and transportation & installation of offshore facilities, with increasing focus on downstream sustainable energy development activities Collectively, Pape has a track record of over 2,500 km of designed and installed pipelines, and over 500 km of designed and installed subsea cable.
It has also engineered and installed over a hundred offshore jackets & topsides successfully for projects in ASEAN countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam), India, China, Turkmenistan, Argentina, Mexico and the Middle East. Another key achievement is the complete in-house design and fabrication of over 100,000 tons of construction vessels and floating structures including dozens of CALM buoy systems.
As a leading Engineering Consultancy firm, Pape has successfully engaged Certification Processes with several National & International Oil Companies, as required for the realization of its projects. Pape has notably been recognized and qualified as International Supplier by TOTAL, SHELL, PEMEX, PTTEP and developed excellent working relationship with major Certification Companies and Warranty Surveying Companies, such as BV, DNV, ABS, and more. “We remain committed to the energy transition initiatives implemented by the Governments and Energy Companies. Our core competencies have helped us to develop solutions in the Low Carbon and Clean Energy sectors such as Offshore wind farms, Floating solar, Floating LNG-to-Power, Floating LNG Storage and Regasification,
Floating LNG Liquefaction, Small Scale LNG Carriers and Terminals and so on", says Raymond K. Goh, CEO of Pape Engineering.
Flagship Offerings
Pape has four distinct solution lines – Subsea Umbilicals Risers and Flowlines (SURF), Offshore Transportation & Installation (OTI), Offshore Marine and Shipbuilding (OMS) and Energy Development Solutions (EDS), each with its distinct offerings and specializations but often working together in complex projects. “Our flagship offering is the GENBlue – a Floating LNG Power Plant. GENBlue is designed to eliminate the complexities of land use, terminals, LNG storage, regasification, power generation, substation, switchyard and combine all of these into a compact floating platform. We have designed the GENBlue completely in-house and received Approval in Principle from Bureau Veritas in 2017", adds Raymond.
GenBlue can be configured with either Reciprocating Generators or Turbines and can be scaled from 20MW all the way to 360 MW in Simple and Combined Cycle modes, to function as a peaker or a combined cycle base load power plant. Pape has been instrumental in several prestigious projects such as the engineering and supervising the first ever offshore float over in Indian waters, performing the mooring installation for the first FLNG in SE Asia, design and installation of the southernmost offshore platform and pipeline in the world (Terra Del Fuego in Argentina), engineering the transportation of two Accommodation Work Barges and two Anchor Handling Tugs on a single Heavy Lift Carrier from SE Asia to Gulf of Mexico.
Onward & Upward
Since its inception, Pape has been executing projects in almost all significant geographical areas such as the Gulf of Mexico for PEMEX, South America for Total, West Africa for Exxon Mobil & TOTAL, Central Asia for Dragon Oil in Turkmenistan (Caspian Sea), Middle East for Maersk Oil & Aramco, India for BG & ONGC, Australia for Seatrucks, and for PTTEP, PTSC, Shell, CNOOC, Petro China, CUEL, Exxon, Petronas, Hess, Murphy, Chevron and more in SE Asia and China. In 2012, Pape Engineering team completed a major offshore installation project for ONGC in Indian waters offshore Mumbai, where two large topsides (13,500Tons Process Platform and 7,500 Tons Living Quarter topside) were installed within 10 days interval using the float-over method, which allows to install structures heavier than the maximum crane capacity of construction vessels.
The team at Pape continuously seeks out technology that is well proven and cost efficient to use and implement, bringing more value to the stakeholder and its clients and reducing the risks during the execution and operations. The company is focusing on bringing in the best talents and growing the next generations of talents through various initiatives with top notch universities in Singapore, Indonesia, and Myanmar for instance.
We remain committed to the energy transition initiatives implemented by the governments and energy companies. Our core competencies have helped us to develop solutions in the low carbon and clean energy sectors
“I envision Pape to be the project management consultancy company that is at forefront in contributing innovative solutions in the energy industry by utilizing its strengths and credentials in the marine and Oil & Gas business. Clean energy is the focus of the industry and in our journey towards Net Zero, we are fully equipped to do our part. Offshore windfarms, Floating Power Plants, Harvesting the energy of the ocean, Barge type FSRUs, Small Scale LNG Carriers and Small-Scale LNG Terminals are already part of our portfolio – we intend to delve further to ensure a sustainable future", concludes Raymond.
