Human life is precious. Saving even a tiny fraction of it is worth every effort. Annually, road traffic accidents claim the lives of roughly 1.19 million individuals worldwide. Hence, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are crucial to the solution. However, the major challenge faced by conventional 2-dimensional automotive radar systems lies in their restricted field of view, particularly lacking in elevation capabilities. Given what is at stake, Taiwanese company Megasense Technology is hosting a global safety revolution by taking radar systems to the next level thanks to its patent-pending Patent 4D scanning technology.
Unparalleled Know-How & Expertise
The story of Megasense is also the story of the company’s Founder and CEO, Sloan Hsiao and his unparalleled experience in the radar technologies industry. An alumnus of National Chao-Tung University, a prestigious institution renowned for its excellence in Electrical Engineering, Sloan has had a diverse and extensive career in the technology sector. He commenced his professional journey at Microelectronic Technology (MTI), where he dedicated 18 years to various roles spanning R&D, manufacturing, sales, and marketing. This tenure at MTI, a leader in satellite and wireless products in Taiwan, became crucial in broadening his perspective and honing his skills across multiple disciplines.
Subsequently, Sloan embraced the challenge of establishing a radar team from the ground up at Wistron Neweb Corp. (WNC). This endeavor, initiated in 2012 when the radar field was only starting to drive the global automobile industry via ADAS, involved recruiting talented graduates and spearheading a project that set new standards in automotive radar applications.
Transition into a Business Leader & Entrepreneur
“My transition into a business leadership role was solidified during my tenure at WNC, where I spearheaded the automotive radar development team and successfully collaborated with premier automotive manufacturers and tier-one suppliers, including Daimler and Hitachi, as well as engagement with autonomous driving (AD) pioneers like Google/Waymo, Nuro, and Wayve.
The development cycle for ADAS and AD technologies typically spans five to seven years, and our team's ability to see these projects through to mass production has been a significant accomplishment. It is gratifying to know that the radars we engineered are now integral components of AD vehicles actively navigating roads worldwide", asserts Sloan.
Leveraging the wealth of knowledge and experience gained from these pivotal roles, Sloan founded Megasense Technology Corp. He aims to channel his immense expertise & experience into advancing industries through innovative applications in security, safety, and automation, thereby contributing to the technological landscape with a focus on practical and impactful solutions. The company is on an endeavor to revolutionize various sectors, including Home Security, Unmanned Factories, Traffic Management, and Railroad Safety, with the potential for limitless expansion into additional markets.
Sensors that Make ‘Megasense’
Megasense’s technology prowess speaks the same language of innovation and revolution. To meet the stringent specifications for a 4D imaging radar, the company has innovated and patented antenna technology capable of executing three-dimensional scans to capture comprehensive point clouds from target objects. These data points are then processed through our advanced AI algorithms, tailored for various applications, to deliver critical information such as object location and intrusion alerts to our end-users for their specific needs.
Our company distinguishes itself from competitors by possessing comprehensive radar technology expertise & by attentively responding to our customers' feedback to select the most appropriate technology solutions for their requirements
“Customization is key, as different applications demand unique specifications, whether extended range, broader detection angles, or quicker response times. Our company distinguishes itself from competitors by possessing comprehensive radar technology expertise and by attentively responding to our customers' feedback to select the most appropriate technology solutions for their requirements. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure customer satisfaction through the exceptional value our products deliver", adjoins Sloan.
A Bright Future
According to the 'Radar for Automotive 2022' report by Yole Development, the radar sensor market is experiencing robust growth, particularly within the automotive sector. Projections indicate that sales are set to rise from $5.8 billion in 2021 to $12.8 billion by 2027, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.4 percent. On the other hand, in recent years, advancements in radar technology have primarily been driven by the increasing demands of ADAS and AD. This ecosystem is a sure bet to pave the way for innovation and, in turn, for Megasense.
Sloan concludes, “We named it ‘Megasense’ to build the company on a philosophy that everything we do 'makes sense'. We 'make sensors' that fit the right market and applications. With this clear vision, we continue to increase our value through innovative design and deliver great products to customers". Today, acknowledging the constraints of a finite workforce, the company is also actively seeking collaborative partnerships to facilitate mutual growth and scale its operations effectively.
